The first day

After waiting anxiously for almost a month (we do tend to get a bit gittery from the 8th month) finally he decided to arrive on 7th of April. The pain started early in the morning around 7am. But I didn't realise that it was "the" pain. I thought it was one of those "Braxton Hicks" contractions and since anywayI was due for a doc visit the same day, I decided to take it easy. But by the time I went to the doc at around 10am things were worse, meaning the pain had really increased. The doc did a check-up and was quite surprised, 'coz according to her I was already 10% into labor and surprisingly not screaming as people generally do ;-). Before that they did a scan and figured that a normal delivery would be difficult becasue his head was not in the right position. He had lifted it up and was trying to come out chin first which is not exactly an easy thing to do. Neither for him nor for me!
There was nothing much to do except wait for him to turn his face by himself, so I was in the labour room staring at infinity and enduring the pain. Nobody was allowed inside as yet so it was all the more miserable. Finally at 3pm the doc checked again but sonny had not budged. He had decided that his chin would be the first thing to see the world ;-)
At this time his pulse rate was coming down so was my water level, so the doc decided that it was time for a c-section. I was moved to the OT. I could get a glimpse of my family now.. my husband, my sister and my mil... all anxiously waiting. My mom was on her way from Mysore to Bangalore was equally anxious and getting minute by minute updates from my sis over the phone ;-)
Everything was ready, and just before giving the aneastesia, my doc again tried to move the baby to the normal position, so that I can have a normal delivery.. but unfortunately he was so stuborn he refused to put his head down!
Then the normal proceedings of an operation went on... When the moment came, and he was pulled out of me.. I felt as though air has been sucked out of my body. And lo and behold he was born! The light of my eye and darling of my life :-)
I never had imagined that a baby's cry would be so soothing. I was so overcome with emotion.. I could see him being cleaned by the pediatric and I kept asking "Is he ok? is he ok?". Ofcourse the doc gave a green signal of all was well. He had 2 bruises in his face.. one on his nose and one on his eye.. this was because he had hit himself to my pelvic bones when he was trying to come chin first! Thank god it was only a small bruise which went off after some days! I wonder what would have happened if he had hit more hard :-(
The hospital folk took some pics of me with him and he was taken out into the real world! I was put to sleep.
He was first handed over to my husband and later on I heard from my sis that he was so overcome with joy that he started crying for the first time in his life!
So thats how our bundle of joy came into this beautiful world.
He is 2 months old today and he has slowly started to recognise people and gives a smile when he wishes to. Its a treat to see him smile and it makes me smile everytime he does that!
Sonny, I will do whatever I can to let that smile be on your face forever! Welcome to our family sweetheart!

when I was shown my baby on the OT, the first Q that came out was, Is that a girl? I wish I had! Well, next time, may be!! Not that I don't like the boy, that was jut a preference :-)
